Earn Your Stripes December 7th, 2015
The days of lying on a dull, cylindrical foam roller and squishing tight muscles are over. We now have a much better understanding of how tool assisted self-manual therapy works (http://www.livestrong.com/blog/dos-donts-self-myofascial-release/) so the team at RAD Roller has designed a suite of products to help you achieve maximum results. We are dedicated to finding a way to help you move better, feel better and perform better. Introducing The Helix: the foam roller’s nemesis that is smarter, wiser and more effective. It has been designed with the structure of your body in mind so the experience is far less cumbersome. Think of The Helix as a gateway to your nervous system. A few minutes of mobility work a day will provide a mechanical stimulus to the structures of your body that will help you move with more ease and less pain. You can expect to see some colored stripes on your back after using the product so don’t worry… it’s a sign of increased skin temperature and (if we want to break out the microscope) increased cellular activity in the region, circulation and potentially a reflex change in the holding pattern of the muscle.
The skin contains nerves and it can glide when contacted and moved. If a region of your back is painful you can try applying pressure with the Helix and 'dragging' the skin away from the site of pain while lying on the floor in a comfortable position. As the skin moves the nerves embedded in it will also receive a stimulus and this can change your brain’s perception of what is happening at the site of discomfort or immobility. While The Helix works especially well for the back and in particular the thoracic spine, it can be used anywhere on the body. You’ll find that it works really well at targeting the larger surface areas of the body such as the glutes, quads, IT bands, hamstrings, lats, triceps and calves. It is so light and compact that you can put it in your gym bag, golf bag, or carry-on luggage and take it with you wherever you go.
